I’m thrilled to share that Luca Rossi is coming to the UK for a short tour in November 2022!

Before his London concert on the 19th November, Luca has kindly offered to lead a workshop in London on Southern Italian frame drums which will be hosted at the London Irish Centre in Camden.

Luca is one of the most important exponents of the tammorra, the ancient frame drum of Campania and also specialises in the techniques and styles of frame drums which belong to the Mediterranean area. Luca’s workshops are inclusive and high energy, and he has taught and lectured on this rich tapestry of drumming traditions to audiences all around the world.

NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED- suitable for complete beginners and more seasoned players

LUCA ROSSI

Luca Rossi is an Italian percussionist, composer and author specialising in the popular theatre and folk music of Southern Italy. He is one of the most important exponents of the tammorra, the ancient frame drum of Campania and also specialises in the techniques and styles of frame drums which belong to the Mediterranean area.

Luca has collaborated with many of the icons of the Italian popular music scene and international ethnic music such as Teresa de Sio, Marcello Colasurdo, Enzo Avitabile, Orchestra Campana and Eugenio Bennato, NCCP and Tullio de Piscopo, Benham Samani, Kelvin Sholar, Tambours du Mediterraneè and with productions and company of dance theatre.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

 

In this fun and inclusive workshop we will explore:

-The vibrant and rich history of drumming in the south of Italy, the stories behind the tradition, and what makes them so unique.

-The fundamentals of technique for playing the tammorra and tamburello

- A selection of traditional patterns for each drum, from different areas, including pizzica and tammuriatta, tarentella and salterello

-Accompanying traditional songs and dance
